“Emergency Animal Disaster Services and Emergency Animal Sheltering “

March 21, all day, two-part program 8:30 a.m-4:00 p.m.

Narragansett Regional High School, 462 Baldwinville Rd, Baldwinville, MA 01436

Part I. Introduction to Disaster Animal Services:  8:30 – 12:00 am

The Intro Course offers the basics of animal disaster response including local, regional, and national animal response systems, , requirements for team membership, what psychological characteristics a team member needs to work in disasters, call out procedures, task assignments, how to manage current and spontaneous volunteers, and procedures for intake to discharge at an emergency animal shelter including safety procedures. CERT animal module 1 incorporated as applicable. Local animal control participating.

Part II. (This is mandatory for all animal disaster responders): 12:30 – 4 pm

Emergency Animal Sheltering (EAS) live animal simulation. Shelter set up from call out, to clean up. Shelter survey, how to assess your facility, interviewing techniques, and intake procedures for pet owners, and animals, safe animal handling for disasters. It will include reviewing the CERT animal module II if there is enough time and if applicable. Special guests in animal behaviorism and disasters assist instruction. More Info
